AltoTech Global is at the forefront of transforming how buildings consume energy, using AI and IoT to turn hotels, commercial properties, and large portfolios into smart, low‑carbon assets. Its flagship platform optimizes both air‑side and water‑side systems in real time, helping operators cut costs, reduce emissions, and gain transparent, verifiable performance insights.

In this spotlight, we sat down with Dr. Warodom Khamphanchai, CEO and Co‑Founder of AltoTech Global, to explore the company’s journey, its proprietary AI engine, and his vision for the future of “self‑driving” buildings.

Altotech AI in construction Startup Journey

From Idea to Impact

Question: What specific problem did you set out to solve when starting this company, and why was it meaningful to you?

Dr. Warodom didn’t answer right away, but showed us the live dashboards behind him tracking cooling loads, kilowatt‑hours, and CO₂ emissions from buildings across multiple countries. “People see a cool lobby or a comfortable hotel room,” he said, “but they don’t see the energy bill- or the emissions – that come with it.” Hotels, malls, and offices were running complex, often aging systems with limited engineering staff and rising ESG pressure, yet much of their available data went unused for continuous optimization.

“We wanted energy efficiency to happen in the background,” he explained, “like a self‑driving car for your building, but with humans always in control.” From day one, the mission was clear: use AIoT to drive energy efficiency and carbon reduction at scale, while making performance measurable and trustworthy for operators, owners, and investors.

The Toughest Tests

Question: What was the biggest early challenge and how did you push through it?

“The hardest part wasn’t building algorithms,” Dr. Warodom recalled. “It was proving they could be trusted in messy, real‑world buildings.” AltoTech’s biggest early challenge was showing that advanced AI control could work reliably across very different sites with legacy equipment, limited data, and cautious stakeholders, all with a small team. Every deployment demanded deep mechanical and electrical understanding of chillers, pumps, and air‑side systems, plus resilient software that facility teams could connect to mission‑critical HVAC controls.

To overcome this, the team took a disciplined approach by:

  • Starting with targeted water‑side and air‑side pilot projects, building a library of real operational cases and energy baselines rather than relying on theoretical models.
  • Partnering with technical and local ESCO partners and joining accelerator programs, gaining resources, credibility, and market access.
  • Designing for safety and transparency from day one: automated control with human‑in‑the‑loop overrides, clear KPIs, and real‑time dashboards so customers could “see, trust, and validate every kilowatt‑hour saved.”

“Those pilots and partnerships turned skepticism into measurable wins and reference sites,” he said. Beyond building a sustainable business, he wants AltoTech to raise the bar for how buildings and hospitality operators think about energy and climate action – making efficiency automatic and verifiable so sustainability becomes an operational default.

Question: What is the core technology or AI model that makes your product or service stand out from competitors?

Under the hood, AltoTech’s platform is powered by proprietary, domain‑optimized AI built from real engineering data and extensive field experience. “Our AI is born in mechanical rooms, not just in code repositories,” Dr. Warodom joked, highlighting that the models are grounded in operational reality rather than simulations alone. The AI has been developed using data from high‑complexity environments – AAA office buildings, large mall groups, top exhibition halls, international‑standard hotels, major banks, and government departments – giving it a broad base of real‑site behavior.

Each deployment includes a local site‑adaptation layer so the AI learns the unique behavior of that building and tunes itself accordingly. “No two buildings are treated exactly the same,” he noted, “because no two buildings behave exactly the same.” Savings are calculated according to internationally recognized IPMVP standards, with specialized PMVE expertise ensuring transparent, auditable, investment‑grade results. In practical terms, this yields significant reductions in cooling energy use and operational CO₂ emissions at portfolio scale, made visible through real‑time carbon and energy dashboards.

Question: How do you ensure your AI systems remain innovative and scalable as the industry evolves?

AltoTech keeps its AI innovative and scalable by combining per‑customer intelligence with a rich case library. Each site benefits from a privacy‑first adaptation layer that learns local patterns on‑device or via privacy‑preserving updates, while years of production deployments across diverse building types feed a growing library of real‑world edge cases. “Our models are born from field lessons, not just lab data,” he said. “Every deployment teaches the system something new.”

Lessons from the Journey

Question: What is the most important thing you want customers to feel or experience with your product or service?

“We want them to feel confident and relieved,” he answered without hesitation. Confident that their building is using energy efficiently and meeting sustainability goals, and relieved because the system makes that outcome easy and low‑risk. That experience rests on three pillars: visible, measurable results through clear KPIs and real‑time carbon/energy dashboards; a “set‑and‑trust” product mentality where self‑driving AI handles complexity but always allows safe human overrides; and credible sustainability outcomes that customers can report or certify. “In short,” he summarized, “trust in the technology, clarity in the outcomes, and simplicity in operation.”

Question: What’s the most important piece of advice you would give to other startup founders based on your experience?

His advice is straightforward: “Stay anchored to your purpose while remaining flexible in your approach.” AltoTech’s mission – using AIoT to drive energy efficiency and carbon reduction – has remained constant, but the path has evolved, from focusing first on air‑side optimization to integrating water‑side systems for greater efficiency. “A clear vision gives you direction,” he said. “Agility is what keeps you moving.”

Question: What’s the biggest surprise you’ve encountered in your entrepreneurial journey, and how did you adapt?

“The biggest surprise,” he admitted, “was how much education and collaboration are required to drive adoption of sustainability solutions.” Energy efficiency and carbon reduction did not automatically sell themselves, many stakeholders needed help understanding technical, operational, and financial benefits. AltoTech adapted by becoming a knowledge partner – building real‑time carbon dashboards, organizing sustainability workshops, and collaborating with event organizers and building owners to visualize impact through data. “Innovation only matters if customers can clearly see and feel the value,” he reflected.

AltoTech’s team

Question: Describe your ideal company culture in three words, and give a specific example of how each is lived out daily.

For culture, he chose three words: curious, accountable, collaborative. Curiosity appears in daily “what I learned” updates during standups, which feed a shared knowledge board and future experiments Accountability is reinforced through clear KPIs and end‑of‑day status and blocker reports, with explicit decision rights so the team can move quickly without losing control. Collaboration is visible on sites where engineers, sustainability researchers, and field technicians do handoffs together, ensuring decisions survive contact with real equipment and real customers.

Where Buildings Go Next

Question: What fundamental shift in your industry are you anticipating, and how are you positioning the company to take advantage of it?

Looking ahead, Dr. Warodom sees a fundamental shift from siloed, manually tuned controls toward continuous, AI‑driven operational optimization and outcome‑based services. “The question won’t be ‘What’s your chiller setting?’ anymore,” he said. “It will be ‘How much energy and CO₂ did your building actually save this month?’” AltoTech is positioning for that future with self‑driving AI that jointly optimizes water‑side and air‑side systems with human‑in‑the‑loop safety, and with real‑time carbon and energy dashboards that deliver visible, auditable results for owners, regulators, and investors.

Final Words

AltoTech’s AI Engine

By December 2025, when we sat down for this interview, AltoTech’s platform had already helped reduce 2.9 million kgCO₂, the equivalent of 115,000 trees planted, across 3.93 million m² of managed space and 68 commissioned properties. The company is scaling through a partner‑led international go‑to‑market model, working with strategic partners in markets such as Singapore and Malaysia who bring local technical knowledge, sales reach, and regulatory know‑how.

Beyond commercial success, AltoTech’s ambition is to change the default state of buildings – from manually tuned and often wasteful to continuously optimized and low‑carbon, where efficiency is automatic and verifiable. As the dashboards behind him continued to update during our conversation, Dr. Warodom captured that vision in a single line: “If buildings are everywhere, they should at least be smart enough not to waste the world they sit on.”
